If you want your generation to grow up heathier than your parents’, and you’ve got ideas about how to do it, consider applying to be a board member for the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
Our Youth Advisory Board is one of the only youth-led advisory groups in the country focused on childhood obesity issues. Our current 21 youth leaders provide a youth perspective to the Alliance as we strive to encourage young people across the nation to make healthy choices.
Board member responsibilities include attending monthly conference call board meetings, two yearly face-to-face board meetings, and implementing a community service learning project. Students from all over the country serve on the board. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is based in Portland, Oregon. Youth will gain experience advising on policy, public speaking, and implementing projects to make the world a healthier place for their peers.
Applications are due April 15, 2013. You will complete the application online but you will also need to print out and mail a permission form signed by your parent or guardian. Make sure you read over the checklist before you begin your application. Two adult recommendations so make sure you give them plenty of time to prepare all of the wonderful things they are going to say about you.
To learn more about the Youth Advisory Board responsibilities and benefits, you can tune in to a webinar on April 2, 2013. Sign up for the webinar online.
